Sete Cidades

Located on the island of São Miguel in the Azores, this breathtaking viewpoint offers panoramic views of the beautiful lakes of Sete Cidades. The name “Boca do Inferno” literally means “Mouth of Hell.”

Interesting fact: did you know that the lakes of Sete Cidades are actually made up of two different lakes, known as Lagoa Azul (Blue Lake) and Lagoa Verde (Green Lake)? According to a local legend, the lakes were formed by the tears of a princess and a shepherd boy who were in love but could not be together. Their tears formed the two lakes with different colors.
